The 18-hole “Metropolitan” course at the Metropolitan Golf Links facility in Oakland, California is a public golf course that features 6,959 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72 .
The core of what makes The Metropolitan Golf Links so popular is the golf course, a Johnny Miller and Fred Bliss design just to the south of Oakland’s airport. The original site boasted some gentle undulation; Miller and Bliss augmented the site and dramatically improved the drainage by covering the original landscape with two feet of sand then growing the latest turf hybrids. When other nearby courses are flooded or muddy, The Metropolitan Golf Links is playable—and fun to play.
The Metropolitan Golf Links has a compact layout with two balanced nine hole loops that start and end at the clubhouse. The routing of the course includes straight holes, doglegs, and even a couple of double doglegs! The layout boasts subtle mounting, gentle undulation changes, four wetlands areas, and just enough bunkering to add significant strategic interest.
The interesting routing also means that the wind affects each hole very differently, also adding to the fun. Perhaps the greatest asset of The Metropolitan Golf Links layout is that it provides the thinking golfer with a variety of options depending on the wind, course conditions, and the golfer’s appetite for risk on any given day.
The Metropolitan Golf Links is not overly bunkered and there are only a few water hazards that come into play. Yet with winds coming in off San Francisco Bay, The Metropolitan Golf Links has plenty to challenge the better golfer. Miller and Bliss have designed the course so that the low-handicapper will have to think his or her way around the course to score well. The Metropolitan Golf Links is strong enough from the back tees to serve the needs of the Cal Bears Golf Program.

Great Place to Stay
I am a frequent business traveler to Oakland, and sometimes I stay there up to 4 nights a week. I had a great stay at the Executive Inn in Oakland, CA.
They have a great property with exceptional service for a good price. I have had a great experience. I really like the free shuttle service. It saves me allot of money. I also take advantage of the breakfast every morning. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning a stay in Oakland.
I would like to send a sincere word of thanks to EXECUTIVE INN and SUITES. . .
Your staff, was incredibly supportive and went above and beyond all of my expectations. I also wanted to give specific thanks to Bradley who ensured the front desk supported all of our needs. Without Bradley and your team of professionals our San Francisco Fleet Week mission would not have been possible.
Due to your team's efforts we were able to provide critical force protection for the $17 billion Aircraft Carrier, USS CARL VINSON while she was anchored in the San Francisco Bay. We have received multiple accolades for our flawless execution and I wanted to pass that on your team, the people that were instrumental in making this operation so successful.
Thanks again for taking care of us. I look forward to using your establishment during all of our future missions and training!
Great Staff & Accommodations!
We could not be more pleased with how well your people accommodated our needs for our meeting. Everyone was very pleased with the accommodations and how everyone at the hotel was so courteous. We will be coming back to the Executive Inn! If you would want to use us as a reference we would be more than happy to recommend you. Thanks again - in these times it is really helpful to have a good meeting and you were a great part of that.
I would like to express my gratitude for your presence at our Enlisted Person and Civilian of the Quarter recognition breakfasts!
We greatly appreciate your ongoing support of the Coast Guard. Our quarterly recognition event is one way we honor our loyal and productive members. Once again, I would like to thank you and the Executive Inn & Suites for their generosity. We look forward to continuing our relationship as community partners.
Some months ago I met with your Director of Sales, Michael Weber, CMP to discuss accommodations for a forthcoming reunion - the Class of 1955 from Alameda High School. Michael could not have been more helpful, and as a result many of our classmates stayed at the Inn this past weekend.
When I mentioned to Michael that we would like an area for a gathering of classmates the night before the reunion, which was held at Scott's at Jack London Square on Saturday, he suggested using the lounge area for no-host cocktails and that 'Howie' would be our bartender. This worked perfectly, and Howie was an incredible bartender and did an excellent job and was very personable with the guests.
On behalf of the Alameda High 55th Reunion Committee, I want to thank you and every one of your staff who helped make this weekend such a great success. It was greatly appreciated.
